Guild launches social media campaign

In June, the Buffalo Newspaper Guild quietly launched a social media campaign aimed at sharing the stories and faces of dedicated guild members. The first featured Guild member was reporter Lou Michel, who shared his inspiration for getting into this often challenging business.

“I wrote my first short story at 8 years old. It was about time travel and a hero who keeps showing up at just the right moments in different wars. Then I discovered New York City columnist Jimmy Breslin, the greatest living journalist. He told compassionate and hard hitting stories about people suffering injustices… I wanted and still want to do what Breslin accomplished,” Michel said.

Other featured members have included classified advertising staffer Jackie Kuma, circulation staffer Latrice Carr and City Hall reporter Susan Schulman.
