The future of The News job industry seminar
Guild secretary Joe Lapi takes notes during a two-day seminar on the Future of News Industry Jobs at the University of Maryland Oct. 26 & 27. Great American Cleanup
Eight Guild members and a guest took time out of busy Saturday schedules to participate in the the Great American Cleanup May 19. The members attacked the end of The News’ main parking lot closest to the Scott Street entrance and swept up and removed 39 garbage bags worth of trash. Thanks to organizer Dan Herbeck and participants Irene Liguori, Steve Watson, Carolyn Raeke, Melissa McCann, Jay Bonfatti, Mike Beebe, Sharon Cantillon and Charles Anzalone. (more…)

Guild’s First Subscription Drive – 2006
The Guild’s first subscription drive ended with Guild members signing up 163 new paid subscribers to The News.The winner of the $500 prize for most subscribers sold was Lou Michel of Editorial, who had 53. Brenda Adams of Inside Circulation was a strong second, with 43. Ann Marie Rucki of Classified Ad was the lucky winner of the HDTV raffle.

Great Lakes District Council
About 20 Guild members from the Great Lakes District Council met in Buffalo over the weekend of Jan. 27-28 at the Best Western Inn on Delaware Avenue. Representatives came from Dayton, Detroit, Northeast Ohio, Pittsburgh and Toledo.
