In other big Guild news, Kim Leiser has been hired to replace Tammy as local staff representative and is scheduled to start in July.
Kim, an administrative assistant in Circulation, has worked in the News department since 1994. She has served as Guild treasurer since 2010 and Circulation chief steward since 2005. She’s also treasurer of NewsGuild’s Great Lakes District Council. She also is a veteran of Guild bargaining teams.
Kim lives in Lackawanna, and is a graduate of Lackawanna High School and Bryant & Stratton College. The Guild performed a job search inside and outside the building, and it became clear that Kim was the most qualified of any of the two dozen or so candidates who applied.
“Kim is passionate about the Guild and labor issues. She’s knowledgeable about our contract. And, she sees the position as a great opportunity. This is a positive move for the union,” said Guild President Henry Davis.
