Guild to survey members about its future
Guild members will soon be receiving a survey designed to strengthen our union and refocus our efforts on the priorities and needs of its membership. By canvassing our Guild community, we hope to find new and creative ways to keep everyone informed, interested and active. (more…)

Buffett sticking with The News
Warren Buffett doesn’t think much of newspapers as money makers these days, but he’s standing by The Buffalo News.
Buffett offered his most candid assessment to date of where he thinks The News and the industry are headed at the annual Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting in Omaha, Neb. this month. (more…)

Guild members gain a voice in The News’ future
There’s not much to celebrate about the Guild’s recent settlement with The Buffalo News, an agreement marked by layoffs, buyouts and give backs.
One of the exceptions is a new labor-management committee designed to give Guild members a greater voice in the future of the newspaper. (more…)

McShea elected local secretary
Buffalo News sportswriter Keith McShea is the newest face to join the Guild leadership.
McShea, a steward in the newsroom, was elected local secretary at the last membership meeting. He ran unopposed for the position. (more…)

Guild members overwhelmingly ratify agreement
Buffalo Newspaper Guild members approved a tentative agreement Thursday that succeeded in saving The News $2.9 million through a combination of wage cuts, buyouts and other separation incentives.
Guild members voted 178 to 24 in favor of the tentative agreement that the bargaining team reached with management on Friday. (more…)

The Guild and management reached a tentative agreement late Friday afternoon that succeeded in saving The News $2.9 million through a combination of wage cuts, buyouts and other separation incentives.

Negotiations flounder; both sides to meet again today
The Guild bargaining team and management will meet today after a frustrating 13 hours of negotiations on Tuesday that resulted in a complete breakdown of talks at midnight.
The collapse came after The News rejected a Guild proposal that met 95 percent of the company’s $2.9 million cost-cutting goal and, if adopted, would have saved many of the jobs targeted for elimination. (more…)
