Informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday
Since the Guild and The News began negotiations, there has been a good amount of information for all of us to digest. So let’s talk about it.

The Guild bargaining team and Buffalo News management on Friday discussed a potential buyout the company has proposed to meet its goal of cutting Guild-related costs by $1.8 million.

Negotiations begin today
Today marks the first meeting between the Guild bargaining team and management over what are likely to be tough contract issues. As we all know, these are difficult economic times, times that will make the work of the bargaining team extremely challenging over the coming weeks and months.

How to better promote the value of newspapers to readers was one of the main topics of the most recent Labor-Management Committee meeting between members of the Guild and News management.

News rejects Guild contract proposal
The Executive Committee of The Buffalo Newspaper Guild last week gave The Buffalo News a contract proposal in advance of negotiations.
The proposal called for a two-year contract extension of the current collective bargaining agreement, a modest salary increase and/or lump sums, and an extension of The News’ current health insurance obligation.
